Businesses using AI in UK

As AI continues to dominate social debate, research from Slalom finds that 84% of businesses in UK have started using AI in some capacity.

 

 

AI maturity in UK business

The majority of businesses place themselves in an explorer stage (26%), stating that they've had a successful trial using AI and are exploring how to integrate it into their work.

 

However, only 6% consider themselves as pioneers - with a clear strategy and full suite of AI solutions.

Businesses across the board find AI to be trustworthy, with 84% stating they trust the technology.

 

Those in senior roles trust AI more than others, with 97% of C-suite respondents and 93% of business owners saying AI is trustworthy.

 

why do UK businesses trust AI

When looking into the reasons behind the trust, Slalom’s survey finds that most respondents deem AI to be trustworthy because competitors are using it (24%), and almost a fifth (19%) claim this is because of media influence or because it is recommended by trusted content (19%).

 

Although those in senior positions are more likely to trust AI, their threshold for trust is also higher, with 31% of C-suite citing their lived experience as the top reason for their trust, as opposed to outside influences.

Faster product/service development is perceived to be the top positive impact of AI for UK businesses (46%).  

 

top 3 negative impacts of AI

Increase in data privacy risks (45%) is cited at the top negative impact of AI, with likelihood of cyber attacks in second place (40%) and spread of misinformation in third (38%).

 

There is some confusion at more senior levels about the top negative impacts as half of C-suite respondents cite an increase spread of misinformation and AI bias at the same level (53%). While business owners cite aligning with global regulations (56%) top.

A lack of business strategy is cited as the biggest barrier UK businesses are facing with AI implementation.

 

 

Most important AI success factors

Thorough security and privacy and employee training are both considered the most important factor to ensure success when rolling out AI in the UK similar to the Ireland.
